As Salaamu 'Alaykum my noble readers,

The Muslimah’s covering is a core part of her worship and identity. There is a sea of choices that a women can wear to be properly covered. Sometimes these choices can be overwhelming because you never really know which garments fit your lifestyle.

Due to this, I seen fit to begin the “Veiled Beauty Series.” This will give women the pros and cons of each garment plus how to wear it and the lifestyle that it is suitable for. Let’s kick this off with our first style of garments which is known as the Jilbaab or the French Style Jiibaab.

Pros:

• Comes as one or two pieces

• Vast color choices

• Various materials

• Ties on your head for secure fit

• Open and flowy

• Can be very comfortable depending the material and fit

• Arms are attached which lessen wearing layers.

• Can be worn with really long NiQaabs for an elegant look

• Easy to throw on for prayer, to answer the door, or entertain guests.

Cons:

• Must use the chin cover if listed with a chin cover or else your neck and side burns will hang out hence not being covered correctly. **Some are unaware of this chin cover having to be used so they’re wearing it incorrectly. Big mistake.

• Arms are attached whether on the two piece or one. Due to this, some may feel restricted with certain movements.

• If you are a person who likes to wear a NiQaab UNDER the khimaar and not over, this is not too practical with this type of garment.

• Can appear “puffy” under the neck portion depending on which material you purchase with this style.

• Can be a lot of material to maneuver depending on the style you purchase.

Lifestyle:

These garments are very practical and can be worn in many situations. Certain jobs, physical activities, travel, school, and recreation.
