Ramadhaan …. Call to Account!

Updated: Dec 10

As salaamu ‘alaykum السلام عليكم,

With Ramadhaan being one of the most sacred times of year, it’s time for us to reflect. Many people single out fasting as the main objective of Ramadhaan. Although fasting is a major part of Ramadhaan, it shouldn’t be the only focus.

One of the benefits of fasting is that it is a tool for us to be able to attain all the other amazing fruits of Ramadhaan. When the stomach is empty our hearts and minds are more easily able to intake reminders and the remembrance of Allaahالله . Food can be a distraction to the inner reflections and heart softening lessons we need to learn.

That being said, we must pull back the top layer of Ramadhaan which is the fasting aspect, and get to the underlying layers that often get overlooked such as pondering upon our sins, reflection of Allaahالله  creations, self betterment, and purification of the soul just to name a few. We are in a more humbled state during Ramadhaan as this is apart of the mercy from Allaahالله in this blessed month. Issues that we usually try to make excuses for and ignore , Ramadhaan encourages the change.

Listed below are a few convictions we should have during the month In shaa Allaah ان شاء الله :

  1. Busying yourself with yourself.

  2. Feeling ashamed about the sins you commit.

  3. Seeking a lot of forgiveness.

  4. Think and write down ways in which you can improve.

  5. Eliminating the negative individuals that encourage you to sin.

  6. Where do you want to see yourself by next Ramadhaan if Allaahالله permits life?

  7. Realizing how short and temporary this life is.

  8. Taking more advantage of your time.

  9. Are you taking care of the rights upon the ones you are responsible for ? Husband, children, parents, neighbors etc?

  10. Getting healthier in order to worship Allaahالله better.

  11. Reading more as this encourages growth, contemplation, and gratitude.

  12. Our hearts should be opened and ready to blossom like a flower.

In closing, please keep in mind that one of these Ramadhaan’s will be our FINAL Ramadhaan! We are not promised to see the next one. How many Muslims were with us last year and are not with us now? One day that will be us. Make each Ramadhaan better than the last and make it count!

May Allaahالله  grant us forgiveness , accept this Ramadhaan from us , and make us from amongst the people He saved from the Naar. May Allaahالله enter us into His Jannah Aameen. Baarak Allaahu Feekum بارك الله فيكم
