As salaamu ‘alaykum السلام عليكم
Henna has a vast historical background and is also apart of our Islaamic history. Muslim women from the past would often adorn themselves with this natural decor . Wearing Henna is something that is encouraged in Islaam from our Prophet sallaallaahu ‘alayhee wasallam for both men and women.
As for the women , wearing Henna on the hands, feet, and hair are customary and should be apart of our beauty regimen. Henna is all natural so we don’t have to worry about the ill effects of chemical reactions like we would from chemical nail polish . And while we’re on the topic of nail polish, this is a strange affair that a Muslim woman would opt to wear chemical nail polish instead of Henna. Often times this is a sure sign that the lady has somewhat strayed from her Islaamic identity. Either that or she genuinely isn’t aware that Muslim women wear Henna. The tradition of wearing Henna along with the health benefits are reasons that a Muslimah should love to wear Henna. For a more detailed history on Henna, check “Henna History.”
This doesn’t mean that nail polish is Haraam (prohibited) however, a Muslim woman cannot wear nail polish if she’s going to pray because we cannot offer wudhoo (pre-prayer purification) with nail polish on. But we can with Henna which is another plus about Henna. So we usually find that for the Muslim women that still wear chemical nail polish , they wear it when on their menses because who in reality would have the time or efforts to remove the chemical polish each time they’re going to pray?!
That being said, chemical polish is so convenient. And let’s face it, the traditional style of applying Henna to the nails can be time consuming and we just don’t have time for that! So I want to share with you a very easy way to apply Henna to our nails within minutes just like the chemical one but even better AlHamdulillaah الحمد لله .
Step 1:
Purchase an empty nail polish bottle for cheap from any beauty supply or Amazon.
Or clean out a nail polish bottle you currently have by pouring nail polish remover inside and swishing around until bottle is cleaned.
Step 2:
Squeeze any type of Henna that you are accustomed to using into the nail polish bottle. You can achieve this by using a small funnel or even squeezing directly into the bottle.
Step 3:
Use it!!! After you’ve sqeezed the Henna inside the bottle, you can apply the Henna whenever you like. I suggest applying at least three coats of Henna on your nails and leave it on for anywhere between 20-45 minu
tes in order for it to be dark and last longer. You can use this for both fingers and toes. Once you use it , you’ll love it In shaa Allaah ان شاء الله .
I hope this was helpful and a practical aid for us in wearing Henna more often as this is a natural beautification from the Sunnah that distinguishes us from the men.
