Self care for a woman can seem to be more of an external practice when you look at examples such as working out, taking herbs, vitamins, staying hydrated etc. However the more important self care would begin from within. Yes there's alot that can be shared on how the internal self care looks however today we will discuss a few ways to spiritually take care of yourself in addition to your daily Salaah and obligatory acts of worship.
We’ve all had those days of feeling cranky, aggravated, and even feeling sad. While these are normal feelings that will occur sometimes, there are things we can do to keep it under control so it doesn't become normal everyday feelings.
As Muslim women we must nurture and cultivate her Emaan (faith) every day. This is a part of the internal self care. Because the condition of our Emaan is connected to the everyday activities we do. So if we do not have everyday healthy habits, routines, and acts of worship that we fulfill, our emaan will surely suffer therefore causing consequences to our overall health.
What we read, listen to, who we speak with, the priority or lack thereof of our worship all play a role in the condition of our spiritual self care. These things go straight to our heart which will either incease us in good or make us feel bad.
Have you ever spoke to someone and when you finished the conversation you hung up feeling really drained? Maybe that person was spewing negative thoughts in your mind. And by the time you were done you left feeling drained. Well this my sisters is how easy it is to have our emaan effected from something as simple as a phone call or text message.
On the other hand, have you ever spoke with someone and you felt on top of the world after hanging up? Having positive thoughts and ideas that weren’t there before or maybe even encouraged to do better. This is the effect of someone uplifting your spiritual side and emaan.
So as you can see what we allow to internalize is crucial to our emaan which can in turn effect us physically. So I would like to share with you what's called “Emaan Vitamins” . If you take these vitamins everyday, it will be a protection for your emaan and overall spiritual well-being In shaa Allaah.
Here's a list of daily emaan vitamins you can take to care for your spiritual health:
Taking care of your salaah.
Pray on time. Guard your prayers with your life and take pride in it as a Muslimah. Use the salaah as a time of reflection and personal time between you and Allaah which is a purification for us five times a day.
Reading Quraan
Be sure to read some portion of the Quraan everyday. No matter how little even if one ayah, read the book of Allaah. It is one of the quickest ways to get an emaan increase.
Daily Adhkaar
This is a catergory often overlooked by some Muslims so I will elaborate on this. Allaah says in the Quraan what can be translated as: (33:41) "Believers, remember Allah much (33:42) and glorify Him morning and evening."
After Fajr and 'ASr, it is recommended to recite the chapter in "The Fortress of the Muslim" dua book named "Rememberance in the Morning and Evening." One of the reasons the book is entitled Fortress of the Muslim is because it is a protection for the Muslim. We can liken it a shield on the battlefield wherein the enemys are trying to attack but you have the required weaponry to defend yourself.
What does this mean in real- time? It means that we are always under attack from the evils of our desires as well as the shayaaTeen or evil people. Our protection after the obligatory acts of ebaadah are these duas. They build a spiritual fortress around us between the times we recite them. These duas ask for protection from things we wouldn't have even thought to ask for. Truly it's the blessing from Allaah to have these prescribed duas yet many undersestimate just how powerful they are. It's a good habit to get into.
You can purchase the physical copy of this dua book online from many places. If you'd like to have the copy of this book digitally, there are many free apps on iPhone and Androids called "Husnil Muslim" in both English and Arabic. Whichever is your preference of either a digital or physical copy of the book, it's a must-have for the Muslims seeking to be protected, blessed, in need of emaan increase, and good overall health. In shaa Allaah
May Allaah aid us in taking these "Emaan Vitamins" each day to help us be in good emaan and health and accept it from us Aameen 🤲🏼
