As Salaamu ‘Alaykum ,
“And if an evil whisper from Shaitan (Satan) tries to turn you away (O Muhammad) (from doing good), then seek refuge in Allah. Verily, He is the All Hearer, the All Knower” (Quran, Fussilat: 36). With the above ayah (verse in the Quraan ) in mind, we want to realize that the shaytaan is diligently working to divert us from the remembrance of Allaah.
We also need to remember that is it upon remembering Allaah that causes the shaytaan to flee from us. Remembering Allaah also aids the evil whispers from shaytaan and ourselves to subside.
I would like to remind us that we have something so amazingly powerful and miraculous yet many of us do not take advantage of this gift. This gift is The Noble Quraan.
Many muslims do not take the time to interact with this holy book to reap the many benefits and blessings that come from it.
The Quraan is a DIRECT link to Allaah! Just like the 5 daily prayers are. Think about it, we don’t need any “middle man” to talk to Allaah and get closer to Him, No gimmicks, no bribes , no waiting list… all we need to do is be ourselves and come to Allaah alone SINCERELY.
Even the most prominent powerful authoritative figures in this world (the presidents/ judges, etc) will not allow us to speak with them directly without going through extreme hardships. Then we may go through all those difficulties to reach this authority figure HOPING they will listen to us and accept what we have to say.
Rather, with Allaah Lord of the worlds there is no need for this. He allows us unlimited access to him any day any time. Furthermore, he is ALWAYS hearing what we have to say. One of his names is As-Sami’ (the all hearer) Such an opportunity should never be overlooked or taken lightly.
There are many different acts of worship that Allaah has informed us of. However , the act of worship we are speaking of here is reading the Quraan.
As muslims how can we NOT read the words that come directly from Allaah? As a matter of fact, the Quraan is Allaahs speech. Allah says;
Falsehood cannot come to it from before it or behind it, (it is) sent down by the All Wise, Worthy of all praise (Allaah)” [Fussilat 41:41-42
Verily, We, it is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quraan) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption)” [al-Hijr 15:9 Every muslim should build their personal relationship with the Quraan by reading Quraan EVERY DAY. There is not a set amount of Quraan that a muslim HAS to read per day . The idea is not the quantity but the quality. And what this means is that a person that may have read 20 pages in a day but didn’t ponder , reflect, or apply, is missing out on an abundance of understanding and benefit. As opposed to the person who may have read only one page in a day but they read the tafseer ( explanation ) and pondered and applied what they read. This person is more able to get an overall effect from the Quraan. So as long as we do our personal level best of reading, memorizing, pondering, learning, and applying of the Quraan on a consistent basis, then in turn we will begin to see change for the better in us. Not only in us but change in our families, friends, community and more. Because one person bettering themselves has a ripple effect on an entire nation! Let alone those most closest after themselves. One may ask how can Quraan change your life. The answer is that the Quraan is a guidance to all of mankind. It is THE ultimate guide to every affair in our lives. If only we would read it more and apply it to our daily lives we would see. Reading Quraan daily also keeps the shaytaan far away! Reading Quraan is one of the most powerful effective ways to chase the shaytaan away and help us defeat the inner evils we all have within. We want to keep the shaytaan away daily since his goal is to cause us to self destruct and meet him in the hellfire. In closing, reading the Quraan should be something we find comfort in and is a tool that brings us closer to Allah. It also keeps the shaytaan away, betters us both inside and out, cleanses and purifies the hearts, gives us guidance and much much more. Something that has so many blessings and benefits should be apart of our daily lives not something that is left untouched and collecting dust on our bookshelves. Whenever a person wants to know how their relationship is with Allaah, then let him/her look to two things: Their prayer, and their relationship with the Quraan.
May Allaah make us a people whom their hearts cling to the Quraan and protect us from being neglectful Aameen.
